9 February 2019

The 99er MTB Challenge took place on Saturday, 9 April 2016. This popular event was well supported, with over 1000 cyclists taking part, setting a new record for the number of MTB entries!

The 99er MTB Challenge included a 45km, 25km and 12km MTB race and a Kiddies Bike Ride. The race took place on the wine farms of Durbanville, including Altydgedacht, Bloemendal, Hillcrest, Contermanskloof, Morgenster and Ntida. Both the 45km and 25km routes were challenging but enjoyable and tested the riders’ skill and ability. Conditions were good on race day and a great race was enjoyed by all.

The 45km men’s event was won by Darren Lill in a time of 02:06:42. The women’s 45km event was won by Candice Neethling in a time of 02:28:11. The 25km men’s event was won by Jamie Penfold in a time of 01:08:53. The women’s 25km event was won by Miré Herbst in a time of 01:41:04. The 99er Kiddies Bike Ride, for children aged 3 – 12, was a great success!

The lucky draw prize giving at this year’s 99er MTB Challenge had great prizes up for grabs, which included a fat bike and cycling kit worth R10 000, sponsored by Giant Durbanville. Thank you to all our generous sponsors.

This race would not take place but for the volunteers in the form of parents, past pupils, staff and pupils from El Shaddai Christian School who organise the race and work as marshals, parking attendants etc. on race day. A big thank you to them!
