The 99er MTB Challenge took place on Saturday, 22 April 2017. This popular event was well supported, with close on 1000 cyclists participating. The race is organised and hosted by El Shaddai Christian School in Durbanville.

The 2017 99er MTB Challenge had 5 routes: 60km, 45km, 25km, 12km and 5km, taking riders through the wine farms of Durbanville which included Altydgedacht, Bloemendal, Hillcrest, Contermanskloof, Morgenster, D’Aria, Morgenster and Ntida. The 60km and 45km routes were challenging and tested the riders’ skill and fitness. Despite the hot and dusty conditions on Saturday, a great race was enjoyed by all.

The 60km men’s event was won by CP van Wyk in a time of 02:50:30.  The women’s 60km event was won by Hanli Cilliers in a time of 03:39:02. The 45km men’s event was won by Stian Pretorius in a time of 02:24:54. The women’s 45km event was won by Karin van Niekerk in a time of 03:11:17. The 25km men’s event was won by Johan Kruger in a time of 01:13:53. The women’s 25km event was won by Lehane Oosthuizen in a time of 01:27:49. The 12km and 5km events which are aimed at novice riders were a great success!

The lucky draw prize giving at this year’s 99er MTB Challenge had R80 000 worth of  prizes up for grabs, which included an Anthem XR29er, worth R38 000, sponsored by Giant Durbanville and 2 Go Health Gym contracts.

“We are grateful to have hosted another successful 99er event and want to thank those that have made the day possible, from all the volunteers, sponsors, cyclists and especially the farm owners around Durbanville“ says Morné Vorster, Chairman  of the Organising Committee.
